Makenzie + Bradley
These two have a long-time, love. Seriously, what a privilege to document this important little day in their big love story. They were middle school sweethearts (yes, middle school, you read that right) and together for 12 years before getting engaged!
As I think back on witnessing this love, I think of a sudden sharp breeze on a sun-baked beach. Cool air whipping through your hair—air that surprises, delights, and reminds you to be alive and present in this moment. Their day felt simultaneously exciting—like gaining speed downhill on a bicycle—and tender—like the brush of fingertips against angora fur.
While Makenzie and Brad were planning their wedding, I asked Brad and Makenzie what they imagined the atmosphere of their wedding to be like. Three words they used were “fun, upbeat, and easy-going.” They got this sort of atmosphere on point. They were both so present and laid-back throughout the day. The entire wedding party was just that: a party. It was a delight to see their group of old friends celebrating their love.
Brad and Kenzie chose a simple, sophisticated color scheme, using lots of black and white with gold accents and lots of greenery. I just love the gentle way that eucalyptus flutters and dances in a wedding bouquet. Paired with the industrial brick and metal of their venue, the overall look came together so nicely.
Like I said, a party, right? I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a more hype wedding party!
While they know how to party, I also got to witness such sweet and tender moments sprinkled throughout their day. The bride and groom opted for a first look before their ceremony so they could spend more time together. In addition to their first look, they shared such a special moment exchanging their vows in private.
One of my favorite things about being a wedding photographer is the fact that I get to sit back and observe, and witness the moments that nobody else gets to see—sacred moments shared only by the bride and groom. A first look, an intimate exchange of vows, a look exchanged from across the room, a brief touch of the back, a wipe of a tear, a quiet drink on the patio while the party rages on inside.
