Wine & Coffee: A Relaxed Couples Session | Lauren + Nathan
This session felt like literal home, and I’m a big fan.
Lauren and Nathan wanted something that they could relax into, that reflected a little bit of their life together, so we planned their Grand Rapids couples session around some of the things they love. If you don’t know this about me by now, I’m a complete sucker for a couples session that really fits who you are. So you can imagine my delight when they suggested starting at one of their local haunts for a glass of wine, then heading home to make coffee and relax together. I was immediately sold. Heck, I probably should have paid them to do this shoot.
We started at a cozy wine bar that Nathan and Lauren frequent. I would love to say we eased into things slowly and unhurried, but we were working with some time restraints outside of our control, so we made the most of the time it took them to finish their glasses of wine. Not exactly ideal for a few gentle souls who value presence so much, but we enjoyed the time and got the shots. Plus, I’ll never complain about my couples having a little wine at the start of their session to help limber everyone’s bones.
This is my favorite kind of storytelling as a Grand Rapids couples photographer.
It feels sweet, honest, and unforced.
After the bar and a quick neighborhood jaunt, we headed to Nathan and Lauren’s house. At home felt different. There was no pressure and no time limits, just Nathan and Lauren moving through their own space at their own pace. The shoes came off, the music was on low, and the coziness was palpable.
For me, leaning on their kitchen walls, documenting little life moments of theirs—pouring from the kettle, sitting on the couch sipping coffee together, walking in the same backyard they got married in only weeks prior—it felt so special to be capturing those lingering everyday life kind of moments. I can’t express how sweet and important it is to me to be entrusted with doing this thing for my couples.
These sessions truly don’t need much.
A place you love.
Maybe a rhythm that feels sweet to you.
Space to just be together.
Anything that makes you feel like you belong.
